Who is Justin Amash?
Justin Amash is frequently recognized as America’s most accountable and transparent congressman. He earned this reputation by becoming the first and only member of Congress in the history of the United States to explain every vote he takes, which he does through his official congressional Facebook Page.
Justin takes seriously his oath to support and defend the Constitution. He has been a principled and consistent defender of limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty.
With his voting record, Justin has shown an unprecedented commitment to the Rule of Law and the protection of our civil liberties. And he has authored one of the most thoughtful and popular balanced budget proposals of the last few decades—to combat the greatest threat to our national security: the federal government’s overspending and debt.
Justin Amash, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1980, is the son of Palestinian Christian refugees, who came to America in 1956. He attended Kelloggsville Christian School and graduated as class valedictorian from Grand Rapids Christian High School. He graduated from the University of Michigan magna cum laude with a B.A. in Economics and earned his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School in 2005. He and his wife, Kara, have 3 children.
After graduating, Justin worked as a consultant and attorney for his father's family tool business. In 2008, Justin was elected to the Michigan State House of Representatives, winning by a 61%-36% margin. In 2010, Justin ran for US Congress and won 60%-37%. Justin is supported by Club For Growth, FreedomWorks, and Ron Paul's Campaign For Liberty. He supported and campaigned for Ron Paul for President in 2008 and 2012, and Rand Paul for President in 2016.
By large margins, Justin has been re-elected by his constituents twice to US Congress, where he serves on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and is a leading voice in the House Freedom Caucus and House Liberty Caucus.
